Waiting Game

First guys, I’m excited to see any kind of passion about the birds, negative or positive. As to the question on Miggy, my general opinion is that his game and his attitude have taken a dive in the past two years. When he first arrived in B-more I loved his enthusiasm, I loved his energy, I thought he was going to be our MVP. But Mig couldn’t handle the losing and has become a clubhouse infection, from what I have read and heard from some insiders he and Mora have split that clubhouse and fostered alot of negativity. His public request for a trade, some statements he made last season referring to Luis Hernandez and the O’s search for a replacement at short, and his involvement with Palmeiro (I shutter at the thought of him) that may be clarified further by George Mitchell; have all given O’s fans a sour taste. Possibly a sorry end to a once promising Baltimore career.

Along that line it, it looks like the Angels have become an even more interesting fit for Miggy with the departure of Orlando Cabrera. I really have quit reading Miggy rumors and am resigned to his departure, I just hope that Andy Mac gets us a good return.

A couple of questions for you:

What do you think a good return would?

-angels? Willits, Aybar, Santana, Adenhart (who I played Little League with)

Does anyone think Daniel Cabrera should be moved to the end of our bullpen?

-I know the organization has said he doesn’t have the make up to be a closer but it is evident he doesn’t have the make up to be a starter so why not give it a shot, right?

Bedard, Tejada, and Hernandez: on the move?

Rumors abound this week about three of the O’s biggest names.

While McPhail may do the "right thing" and offer our reluctant superstar left hander, Eric Bedard, a competitive extension my thought is that the major league ready prospects that he might yield in a trade cannot be overlooked.

The Baltimore Sun named the Dodgers as the most aggressive bidder, citing a package that could include outfielder Matt Kemp, reliever Jonathan Broxton and Minor League starter Clayton Kershaw. Kemp and Broxton, both 23, have enjoyed marked success in the Majors over the past two seasons, while Kershaw, 19, is largely considered one of the top starting pitching prospects in the game. The decision on Bedard’s future in Baltimore might be the biggest decision Andy McPhail makes as he tries to turn this franchise around. My thought, take the prospects, Bedard’s value may never be more than it is at this moment and 1 or 2 future impact players could turn the tides in charm city. We will most likely find out in mid December.

The Mets have inquired about Ramon Hernandez this week and found that the price of a top level prospect was too steep. With our #1 draft pick on the fast track to the majors I don’t think this would be a bad move if McPhail can find a dance partner……like Bedard, with his age becoming a factor and last year’s nagging injuries Ramon’s value will likely decrease in the years to come. McPhail must be cautious though and look for quality prospects in return, it seems as if that is his stance at this point.

Last but not least, Miggy. Trade him Andy please……for me he has worn out his welcome and when the Mitchell Report hits the presses we might wish Miggy was long gone anyway. I am sure you have all heard the rumors, at least we can rule out the yankees as of yesterday, but I think we all knew that wasnt going to happen.

Is there anybody out there???

Besides Baltimore’s second favorite son, Brooks Robinson, there doesn’t seem to be a soul out there interested in writing or commenting about the O’s. This team has been my obsession since the days when Johnny Oates, may he rest in peace,  first graced the top step at the Yard. Granted that might not seem like very long to some but for me it has been a lifetime. A lifetime spent mostly shaking my head while muttering what should be our new motto, "****** not again."

But I have had some great nights in the bleachers at Oriole Park. It has been a while though, my rooting interest has become almost selfish when I attend a game. I just hope they win when I show up so that fifty bucks isn’t a waste. Although those nachos with the jalapenos and salsa and about 10 Natty Bo’s definitely makes for a good time. Lately in Baltimore we take what we can get and sometimes a cheap seat, a buzz, and a full stomach is all we can hope for.

So, I am going to write about my boys in orange and black and hopefully someone will take notice. I want to know what you, my fellow fans, think about our roster, trades, and the atmosphere around our ball club. Let me know, I am all ears and I will definitely let you all know what I think.
